Dive Into Digital- a video game design camp based on ocean awareness
Dive into Digital is a one-week creative workshop where teenagers (age 12-17) explore the realities facing our ocean and transform what they learn into their own video game. It blends ocean science with digital design. Participants deepen their understanding of marine ecosystems and human impacts while building coding skills, critical thinking, and collaborative confidence. By the end of the week, each student develops and showcases a game that shares a message of ocean stewardship with a wider audience. No coding experience is needed, as challenges are progressive and lead each participants to be able to master the different concepts and adapt the template to their game specs. More experimented coders will take this to the next level of details, challenge, and content. Comfortable snorkeling recommended for our one outing. This programme was created by Blue Backyard in collaboration with Toxicode, creators of Explorers, international collaborators who will be present during the week.
LOCATION: BHS school, in the Rajeev Kapur Centre for AI Literacy

Organizer's Description
Dr Alex Amat is currently the Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS) Ocean Education Lead. She is known for leading educational programs that aim to connect students with the ocean and foster a sense of environmental stewardship. She draws from her training as an oceanographer and her research on coral reefs and climate change to create hands-on and scientifically sound experiences from upper primary to college level. She has founded Blue Backyard to reconnect Bermuda to the ocean and Dive into Digital is her first programme. Dive into Digital was born from discussions Dr Alex had with alumni from her chemical engineering school who are developpers actively engaged in the development of video games for educational purposes. Big Island Games will also support this pilot part time.
